Help Protect $10aDay Child Care
Affordable child care is essential for families, children, and communities across BC. But right now, $10aDay child care is at risk.
What’s happening?
The federal government committed to building a $10aDay child care system but funding gaps are now putting that promise in jeopardy. In BC, expansion has slowed, and it’s unclear when new spaces will be created or how stable existing programs will be.
Today, only 10% of child care spaces in BC are capped at $10 a day, leaving many families facing high costs and long waitlists.

What’s at stake?
Without stronger federal and provincial action:
- Fees could rise
- Waitlists could grow
- New spaces may not be created
- Existing programs could face closure
For many families, this means difficult choices: reducing work hours, delaying careers, or struggling to find care at all.
Why it matters
Affordable child care helps parents, especially women, return to work and support their families. It also supports children’s development and keeps communities connected.
At ANHBC Neighbourhood Houses, child care is rooted in reciprocity. We believe everyone including children, families, and educators have something to contribute, and that caring for one another strengthens our communities. Universal child care is at the heart of this vision.
