About Us

We are ANHBC

We are the network of nine Neighbourhood Houses and an Outdoor Centre across Metro Vancouver, delivering 500+ programs and services for people of all ages and backgrounds. Each Neighbourhood House reflects its community, offering welcoming spaces, practical supports, and opportunities to learn, grow, and lead.

Our holistic approach supports the whole person, the whole family, and the whole neighbourhood — fostering connections, resilience, and belonging.

Our History

Since 1891, the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of BC (ANHBC) has been building strong, connected communities in Metro Vancouver. Starting as a hospital, then an orphanage and fresh-air camp, we evolved into neighbourhood houses that welcome everyone and provide programs and services that respond to community needs.

Over 130 years, ANHBC has grown from a single community service to a network of thriving neighbourhood houses, continuing to adapt, expand, and strengthen communities across Metro Vancouver.

Where does ANHBC Funding come from?

Most of our funding comes from all three levels of government, and we are grateful for their essential support. We also receive grants, donations, and fundraising contributions from community organizations and individual supporters. Together, these partners make it possible for us to continue delivering the meaningful programs and services our neighbourhoods rely on.
