What is ANHBC?

We connect people and empower them to create the change they want to see in their communities.

The Association of Neighbourhood Houses of B.C. (ANHBC) oversees eight neighbourhood houses and an outdoor centre, through which we operate more than 300 community-based programs and services for a diversity of participants.

Through ANHBC, you can build strong, supportive relationships and pursue your passions at welcoming and inclusive sites throughout Metro Vancouver.

Grow stronger neighbourhoods with us

In case you didn’t know, last week was Neighbourhood House Week (May 1-7) and the 128th anniversary of the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of BC (ANHBC)! All week, we celebrated how we grow together — will you help us grow today?

Neighbourhood House Week is a week-long event where everyone — from youth and seniors to newcomers and life-long residents — come together to connect and share how they have been impacted by the Neighbourhood House Movement.

We want to extend the joy and festivity of neighbourhood houses beyond one week. So, for the entire month of May we’ll be highlighting amazing stories from community members whose lives have been touched and changed by ANHBC neighbourhood houses.

Our Stories

The neighbourhood house helped me to be grounded here and to realise that Canada is a great country. It has a lot of challenges, but I feel like these are my challenges now because I am a part of this country. It’s my country now, so, okay, what am I going to do to make it better?

[O]ne day an email went out that mentioned a support program for immigrant women at Kits Neighbourhood House. I joined the group and from that point on, things started to get better because I realized that many immigrants had gone through what I was going through. I felt less lonely and less afraid in my situation.
