Gordon Neighbourhood House has served as a community hub in Vancouver’s West End since 1942. We have a history of working alongside our friends and neighbours to facilitate connection, engagement, and collaboration while seizing opportunities for community development. Our mission is to make the West End a better neighbourhood in which to live and grow and to ensure that our community is a vibrant and active community, where everyone is empowered to play an active role in civil society. As a place-based community organization, we work alongside our community, sister organizations, local businesses and policy-makers to animate and support dynamic programs, services and initiatives that respond to the needs and dreams of the community.
Our programs include, but are not limited to, drop-in programs for parents/caregivers and tots, child care and day camps, community lunches, youth, young adult programs, Qi-Gong, Yoga, seniors out-trips and lounge activities, special events, Neighbourhood Small Grants, The Clean Team, Organic Bulk Buying Co-op, Rainbow Soup Social and The Attic Thrift Store.
Gordon Neighbourhood House is committed to providing support for the development of local urban farms. We currently have 3 urban farm sites and 8 community herb gardens in the West End. With each growing season, we seek to find new ways to increase the yield of the garden and the breadth of this food growing initiative. We use food to nourish our community in a variety of ways, including the facilitation of intercultural exchange and dialogue, community capacity-building, and community development.
